Level 1 Hitting Program

The Thunder Volleyball Academy Level 1 Hitting Program focuses on basic to advanced hitting mechanics depending on the current level of the athlete. Utilizing the Attack Trainer and Dartfish Video analysis software, each athlete will work on each and every phase of the attack sequence. There are 9 phases in the sequence, and with the recorded action as the athletes’ train they will see all the things that are correct and all the things that need to be worked on to perfect their attack sequence.

THIS IS THE ONLY TOOL LIKE THIS IN ALL OF CANADA!

The primary focus of this program is on building the athlete’s knowledge through teaching not only the key positions during the approach but to teach them how to develop physically as well to increase their strength and avoid potential injury. This training tool will allow players to learn how to become more explosive, hit with greater efficiency. Because basic mechanics are so important to developing advanced level hitters, this program is appropriate for both beginning and advanced level players.

THERE ARE ONLY 6 ATHLETES IN EACH GROUP WITH TWO COACHES!

With only 6 athletes per training session and you will be grouped in pairs so if you want to do this with a friend you would have your friend as your partner. If you want to train with a friend it would be good to do it with a person who plays the same position as you ; outside hitters with outside hitters and middles with middles.

When is it?

The Program starts in late September and the schedule is flexible. It will run through to the beginning of December. The sessions run twice during the week, in the evenings and also on Saturdays and Sundays. You will pick your times at your first session. The first session will be on a weekday evening. At the start of your training you will begin with a personal trainer who will go over several important training and conditioning drills, and you will be assessed and measured in several ways to obtain a base from which to start your training. This initial session is about two hours long, and at the end of it you will receive a journal for the balance of the sessions. You will then receive 8 hours of training in 8 separate sessions with the hitting machine and video analysis program. Beginners will start from the basic level and will learn to hit the ball like a pro. The more advanced athletes will be trained on some of the more specific points and given repetitive drills on the machine to help develop better habits in your attack sequence. The drills are position specific giving outside hitters and middle attackers different drills that will translate directly to their on court team play.

Where is it?

All sessions will be at the Immaculate Conception Gym at 3776 west 28th Ave in Dunbar. The gym is located down the plaza between the Church and the Parish center. There is also underground parking off West 29th Ave with a door at the far end of the parking area that leads up to the gym entrance. Parents are welcome to observe, as the sessions will only run about 1 hour at a time. The gym is only 1 block from the Dunbar shopping area.

The Cost?

The introductory cost is $295.00. The groups are small so the instruction is intense. Athletes are expected to do some of the conditioning demonstrated in the first session on their own, and there will be free time on the weekends for registered participants to practice and train with some supervision.

After registering you will be contacted to set up you first session, every other session will be scheduled from there.

    • @Veronika – We’re currently seeing if we are able to. Traditionally, we do, however, due to the timing of high-school Provincial championships, gym space, and coach availability, it might be tougher this year. If we do, we will definitely post the info on the homepage of this website!

  1. Is make up session tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 19 or the following Thursday, Nov. 26? Is there a 5 and 7pm session like last time?

  2. This week is the last week for the hitting program. We have Saturday 6:30 to 8:30 Saturday 8:30 to 12:30 and Sunday 5 to 7. I will be inviting a few players to work on the solo spike after 7 on Sunday for those interested. (you must be registered in the program)

  3. @ Wendy The sessions which are almost finished run Wed evenings, Sat mornings and Sunday evenings. The best option right now is the individual sessions as we will not run the full hitting program till next fall.
