Roy Dario

Roy has been involved with numerous boys and girls teams — at the high school, club and provincial team level. Notable high school teams include the 2008 Gladstone Secondary Senior Girls team that won gold at the Vancouver City Championships (aka “Cities”) and qualified for their first berth ever in the school’s history into the BC Provincial Championships; and the 2011 Crofton House Varsity Girls volleyball team that had their school’s most successful season finish ever by capturing gold at the Vancouver & District Championships (aka “Lower Mainland Zones”), and silver at the BC AAA Provincial Championships.

Roy has been a coach with the Vancouver Thunder Volleyball Club for the past 4 seasons, ranging from 13U to 17U females.  Notable club teams include the the 2011 Thunder Black 14U team that placed 4th overall at the Canada West (Nationals) Championships; and the 2011 Thunder BOLTS 17U team that finished 1st overall in BC, and 2nd overall in all of Canada.

Roy also has experience with the Team BC high performance provincial programs, including identification, individual skill development, team system and tactics training.  Roy has been a member of numerous athlete identification and selection committees for the provincial programs at the 14U through 18U levels.  Notable provincial teams include the 2008 BC Summer Games Zone 5 Indoor Volleyball Girls team that won gold; and the 2010 Team BC Red 16U Western Elites Girls team that captured bronze.

Roy is a fully certified NCCP Level 2 Indoor Volleyball coach, and is dedicated to increasing his knowledge of coaching in order to better the growth and development of young volleyball players. Roy also coaches various volleyball camps and clinics, ranging from Volleyball BC High Performance camps, the UBC Thunderbirds camps, the Pat Powers (USA) clinics, and the programs at the Volleyball Centre of Excellence (Richmond Olympic Oval).  Roy also frequently assists with the practices of the UBC Thunderbirds Womens’ Volleyball team and has been a part of that program for the past 4 years.

In the past, Roy has practiced and taught martial arts. Currently, Roy is an IT management professional at the University of British Columbia. When not involved with coaching, Roy spends most of his free time playing volleyball. Other interests and hobbies include snowboarding, business and finance, technology, watching movies and playing games.
