Thunder tryouts take place over two days, and athletes should attend both days. If there are special circumstances why you may not be able to make both days, please speak with one of the coaches on the first day, or preferably, contact us ahead of time to let us know why (especially if you will not be there the first day).
During those two days, you will be asked to do a warm-up (pre-hab and dyanmics), be placed in stations to perform basic drills, have measurements taken on physical statistics, such as height, jump reach, and timed sprints, and have uniform sizing done.
Tryouts for the 12th Thunder season 2012 (December 2011 to May/June 2012) will take place on the following days listed below.
All tryouts will be held at UBC War Memorial Gym.
New Club Tryout Rules for 2012
Players coming from other clubs to tryout MUST bring a signed transfer form from their club to be allowed to attend tryouts. Go to www.volleyballbc.ca, youth programs/club volleyball 2012 and download the 2012 Club Handbook and the 2012 Youth Transfer Form for more details.
Important Notes
NOTE 1. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the times listed below so your registration can be verified, number assigned, and uniform sizing carried out.
NOTE 2. There are no 13 & U try outs in December. There is a new and exciting program for 13 & U to be run starting in January, which will include 13 & U Club teams and other training opportunities. Please see this posting for more detail.

Online Registration
Tryout fees for advanced, online registration are $25 per athlete. Once online registration closes (roughly 1 day prior to the first tryout for that age group), athletes may register “at the door” for $40. Visit the Online Registration Site.

15&U (born in 1997)

16&U (born in 1996)

17&U (born in 1995) / 18&U (born in 1994*)
There will be three teams – a 17/18 Competitive Team, one 17U HP team, and one 18U HP team.

* Note: Athletes born in 1993 currently attending their first year of grade 12 may apply for an exemption which will permit him/her to participate in all Volleyball BC sanctioned events including Provincial Championship play and Volleyball Canada’s Open Championships.

Where do I get my transfer form signed in Thunder? U16. Thank you.
Thunder requires the signed form if you are from another team and trying out for Thunder.
If you are a current Thunder team member and want to try out for another team, it is up to the other team if they also require this form.
If you need the form signed by a Thunder representative, please contact the email address on the Contacts pages of this site to get a signed form that you can complete.
I dont see a tryout schedule for 12yrs olds? My daughter played on the school vball team this fall and is interested in trying out. Please advise.

Two programs for 12 and 13 year olds (girls born in 99 and 00) are under development but not yet finalized. We expect training starting in January with a possibility of teams being formed at the end of training. Please watch the blog for further updates.

after registering online, that means you bring $25 to the tryout instead of $40 right?
You pay $25 during the online registration process. Once registered online no more money is owing for tryout fees. The $40 is only if you do not pre-register and instead register ‘at the door’ on night of the tryout.
