U12/U13 Train and Compete

** Feb 2012 Updates for 12U (2000) and for 13U (1999) **

Feb 2012 Updates for 12U (2000)
The first session of U12/13 Train and Compete finishes Monday Feb. 6 and we are now entering the second phase of our program, which is the selection of athletes to continue Training towards Competition. We are trying to keep as many girls as possible involved in the program so we have created two options based on skill level and experience. Due to coaching availability and gym space we have room for 30 girls total. We plan on having 12-14 girls for Program A and 16-18 for Program B. In the event that we have over 30 girls wanting to carry on we will have to make decisions (based on skill/experience) on who we will select.

HOW YOU CAN HELP US OUT: Please email: thundervball12@gmail.com and let us know your plans. Please include your daughter’s name and whether you would like to sign up for Program A (if selected) or Program B or neither program.

SELECTION OF ATHLETES: Please check Rosters page on Wednesday Feb. 8 for which program your daughter has been recommended for. Registration for Program A and Program B will be via Karelo here.

Feb 2012 Updates for 13U (1999)
The Jan/Feb session of Thunder Train and Compete finishes Monday, February 6 and we are now entering the second phase of our program, which is the selection of athletes to the U13 Team Program. Thank-you to the participants of the January sessions – your enthusiasm and progress have been great to see

U13 Team Program – Grade 7 (born in 1999): Athletes selected will continue training at UBC War Memorial Gym on Mondays 4:00-5:45, February 13 to April 16.  The names of those selected (and alternates) will be posted on Tuesday, February 7 on the Rosters page.

Athletes have to Friday Feb 10th to accept by emailing U13Gthundervball@gmail.com

If you decline or we have not heard from you  by deadline we will open up registration to the alternates. Because we have to cut so many keen athletes we expect that all athletes that accept a position be able to regularly attend the Monday practices and tournaments (unless injury or illness precludes participation).

Cost: $225. Registration and payment can be made here. (Covers all costs including tournament registrations, Volleyball BC membership, uniform jersey [t-shirt], equipment, gym rentals and administrative costs). PLEASE NOTE: The VOLUNTEER BOND (when parent cannot volunteer) payable for this program is $50, not $100 as stated on the form. If you select the non-volunteer option, you will only be charged $50.

Tournament Schedule: Sunday, March 4, Harry Jerome (Burnaby) Saturday & Sunday, March 31 & April 1 – Zone 4/5 Regionals (Lower Mainland) Saturday & Sunday, April 21 & 22 – Provincials (Abbotsford)

Your coaches – Stella Chow, Catherine Holdaway, Cheyenne Laatsch and Sally Lin – look forward to a great season of volleyball! We thank them for volunteering to coach our Thunder teams this season and hope that the teams have an excellent Club volleyball season.

Programs Background
Girls born in 1999 and 2000 are encouraged to train and play for Thunder volleyball club. This year we are broadening our program by training in a larger facility and bringing in experienced coaches of young players and strong role models to set the foundation for future development.

There are two primary goals:

  1. Allow all players interested in competitive volleyball to receive strong fundamental training, both for experienced players and those that have not played extensively.
  2. Select teams to compete in tournaments in March, Volleyball BC Regionals, March 31 – April 1 and the Provincial Championships April 21/22.

As training progresses in January, athletes will be grouped by experience. Not all players are guaranteed to be selected to participate in the Championships, but our goal is to have competition opportunities for as many players as possible.
