Thunder is looking forward to another club season. The club will be using a combination of Early Signing and Tryouts to place athletes on teams. Please take a moment to review all the information listed on this page regarding Early Signing, Tryouts, Coaching and Team Allocations. In addition, we recommend visiting the Volleyball BC website and their 2024 Club Handbook which outlines all the policies that Thunder will be following for the 2024 season.

Early Signing

Thunder will be using the Early Signing Period (Sept 15 – Nov 1) for age levels 16U-18U. Athletes who are early signed are not guaranteed to be placed on a specific team. By accepting an early signing offer, athletes are committing to Thunder. Early signed athletes may be invited to attend tryouts to be identified and assigned to a specific team in their age group. The number of athletes that will be early signed will depend on the age group. 

Key Info:

• Early Signing Period – September 15, 2023 – November 1, 2023. 
• All clubs may sign up to 12 athletes per team who were part of the club for the 2023 season. 
• Early Signing offers need to be either declined or accepted within 36 hours of receiving the offer. 
• Early Signing offers may come later in the early signing period after another athlete declines an offer. We will communicate as quickly as possible with all athletes when we are able to. 
• Thunder athletes that accept an early signing offer are not guaranteed playing time or specific team placement.
• All 2023 Thunder athletes that do not receive an early singing offer are invited and encouraged to attend Thunder Trytouts.
• Once the early signing period is closed, Volleyball BC will post the list of early signed athletes.

Tryouts

Thunder will be holding open tryouts for all age groups (12U-18U). Athletes that are not early signed, as well as athletes who are interested from other clubs, are encouraged to attend tryouts. Tryout dates will be posted to the Thunder website in October. Please note the Volleyball BC Tryout periods below.

Key Info:

• All athletes are required to pre-register for tryouts. There will be no signing up in-person. 
• Attendance is mandatory in order to be considered for a Thunder team. 
• Each athlete will be guaranteed 1 tryout and some age groups may have a 2nd tryout by call back in order to provide the selection committee more time to make proper and equitable decisions. Each age group will be notified of their process ahead of the initial tryout. 
• Tryout fees & registration will be announced at the beginning of October on the Thunder Website. 
• Ages of play for the 2024 season are as follows: 12U (born 2012), 13U (born 2011), 14U (born 2010), 15U (born 2009), 16U (born 2008), 17U (born 2007), 18U (born 2006). *Note that athletes born Sept 1 or later can choose to play in their respective age group or down an age group.

Coaching & Teams

Thunder is working to finalize teams and coaches for the 2024 season and are excited to be able to share the following coaches are confirmed. As soon as the 12U-15U coaches are confirmed, this page and the following post will be updated.

Club Registration Fees

Club fees collected by Thunder cover a number of items including: coaching, facilities, equipment, insurance, administration costs, basic mandatory apparel, etc. We do not have confirmed Club Registration Fees, however, we can share the cost of fees from the 2023 season: 

• 12U-14U: ~ $1,500
• 15U-18U: ~ $2,500 (includes 1x bus trip to Oregon)

Important note on Travel: Note that Club Registration Fees (estimated above) are not inclusive of travel costs. The cost of travel depends on the age group and their respective travel schedule.

In terms of club apparel, certain mandatory pieces will be included in the Club Registration Fees and then athletes are welcome to purchase additional items at their own cost based on individual needs through the Thunder store which will be set up for December 2023 (Web store items: backpacks, additional training & casual gear, adult gear, etc.).
